Warning & Precautions

Talk to Doctor

Talk to your Doctor, if you:

  • Are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • Have severe kidney disease
  • Have hearing difficulties
  • Have very low numbers of blood cells (myelosuppression)
  • Are dehydrated
  • Need to have a vaccine for (yellow fever)
  • Have any symptoms of nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy) like pins and needles, numbness or poor sense of touch
  • Have or had radiation therapy to your head

Pregnancy & Breast Feeding

  • Due to the possible risk of birth defects female patients should take contraceptive measures both during treatment with cisplatin and for at least six months after treatment has ended
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine

Driving & Using Machines

  • Do not drive or use machines if you experience any side effect which may lessen your ability to do so


Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • Cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, amphotericin B (used to treat infections)
  • Ifosfamide, bleomycin, methotrexate, paclitaxel (used to treat cancer)
  • Oral anticoagulants (used to treat blood clots)
  • Antihistamines (used to treat allergies, cold)
  • Phenytoin (used for the treatment of convulsions)

  • This medicine should only be given by a doctor

Side Effects

  • Sudden itchy rash (hives), swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth or throat (which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing) and you may feel you are going to faint
  • Severe chest pains possibly radiating to the jaw or arm with sweating, breathlessness and nausea (heart attack)
  • Pain or swelling at the injection site during the injection (may be due to the injection not going into the vein properly, which can lead to serious damage to the tissues around the injection site)
  • Stroke, brain dysfunction (confusion, slurred speech, sometimes blindness, memory loss and paralysis)
  • Decrease in bone marrow function (affects the production of blood cells), decrease in white blood cells (leukopenia)
  • Decrease in blood platelets, increases the risk of bruising and bleeding (thrombocytopenia)
  • Reduction of red blood cells which can cause weakness and your skin to look pale (anemia)
  • Reduced level of sodium in the blood
  • High temperature
  • Severe pain or swelling in either of your legs, chest pain or difficulty breathing (possibly indicating harmful blood clots in a vein)
  • Fast, irregular or slow heart beats
  • Sepsis (blood poisoning)
  • Damage to the ear (ototoxicity)
  • Reduced level of magnesium in the blood
  • Abnormal sperm production
  • Increased risk of acute leukemia
  • Seizures (fits)
  • Fainting, headache, confusion and loss of vision
  • Loss of certain types of brain function, including brain dysfunction characterized by spasms and reduced level of consciousness
  • Inflammation of mucous membranes of the mouth (stomatitis)
  • Peripheral neuropathy of the sensory nerves (tickling, itching or tingling without cause and sometimes with loss of taste, touch, sight, sudden shooting pains from the neck through the back and into the legs when bending forward

Cisplat 50 mg Infusion is given as an injection into veins by a qualified medical professional. Your doctor will decide what dose is necessary and how often you need to take it.
This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. You should take it exactly as your doctor has advised.Taking it in the wrong way or taking too much can cause very serious side effects. Injection site reaction (pain, swelling, redness), nausea, and vomiting are some common side effects of this medicine.

Hearing problems or ear damage is a serious side effect of this medicine, hence your doctor might get a hearing test both before and during treatment with this medicine.

It may reduce the number of blood cells (decrease red blood and white blood cells) in your blood, thereby, increasing the susceptibility to infections.

Regular blood tests are required to check your blood cells along with heart, liver, and kidney function.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor if you have or had kidney disease as the medicine affects the functioning of the kidney.

Many other medicines can affect, or be affected by, this medicine so let your healthcare team know all medications you are using.This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It may cause infertility in men, hence they should seek medical advice about sperm freezing before beginning treatment.

In Ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that begins in the female organs that produce eggs (ovaries). This type of cancer is usually detected very late and can be fatal too.

It usually spreads to the pelvis and stomach. Cisplat 50mg Infusion kills or stops the growth of cancer cells and also prevents the multiplication of cancer cells.

It is an effective medicine but has some side effects that may be bothersome. So, you should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

In Cervical cancer

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is an anti-cancer medicine that is used to kill cancerous cells in cervical cancer, a cancer that develops in the cervix of a female.

The affected female may have symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, foul smelling vaginal discharge, lower back pain, or may even have no symptoms at all.

It has a lot of side effects and you must discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before starting treatment with this medicine.
You should avoid drinking alcohol while having this treatment and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

In Testicular cancer

Testicular cancer is the cancer in the male organs called testicles, that make male hormones and sperm. The testicles are located inside a loose bag of skin (scrotum) underneath the penis.

Cisplat 50mg Infusion kills or stops the growth of cancer cells and also prevents the multiplication of cancer cells in men.
It is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be self-administered.


Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is an anti-cancer medication. It works by damaging the genetic material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells which stops their growth and multiplication.




It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Cisplat 50mg Infusion. Please consult your doctor.


Cisplat 50mg Infusion is unsafe to use during pregnancy as there is definite evidence of risk to the developing baby. However, the doctor may rarely prescribe it in some life-threatening situations if the benefits are more than the potential risks. Please consult your doctor.

Breast feeding

Cisplat 50mg Infusion is unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Data suggests that the drug may cause toxicity to the baby.


Cisplat 50mg Infusion may cause side effects which could affect your ability to drive.
Cisplat 50mg Infusion may cause side effects such as feeling sleepy and/or vomiting which could affect your ability to drive.


Cisplat 50mg Infusion should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Cisplat 50mg Infusion may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Cisplat 50mg Infusion is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease.


Cisplat 50mg Infusion is probably safe to use in patients with liver disease. Limited data available suggests that dose adjustment of Cisplat 50mg Infusion may not be needed in these patients. Please consult your doctor.
